Hepatitis B vaccination

Why should I get vaccinated against Hepatitis B?

Hepatitis B can be found in blood, semen and precum. Hepatitis B is much more contagious than HIV. Infection with the virus can lead to severe liver disease. Hepatitis B is chronic in about 10% of cases.

Infection can occur:

  • from mother to child during the birth
  • through unsafe sex
  • through contact with infected blood

You can get vaccinated to protect yourself. After three vaccinations, you are protected for life. For sex workers and men who have sex with other men, these vaccinations are free.
